Enslavement Walking Tour

Shirley’s Enslavement Walking Tour will be offered at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 9th, 2022. Learn about the history of enslavement at Shirley and the lives of the enslaved who lived and worked here. From the earliest records of Africans in Virginia, their indentured predecessors, to the many facets of and labor roles they played, where and how they lived, and what happened to them.

All Ages: Complimentary with Guided House Tour Admission or Self-Guided Grounds Admission. Booking online in advance is recommended.

This is an outside walking tour on the grounds of Shirley. Tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. Weather-appropriate clothing and shoes and water bottles are recommended. Tour is offered at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM on select dates. Tours will be canceled in case of inclement weather or a heat advisory.
