Haunted Tales of Shirley

This unique after-hours tour of the Manor House at Shirley gives insight to the mysteries and past lives of this historic plantation in Charles City, Virginia. Hear about strange funeral practices and mourning customs over the past four centuries during this special tour. View one of a kind funeral portrait and hatchments, and meet Shirley’s famed resident ghost. Only two dates are offered and capacity is limited!

Check-in at the Shirley Gift Shop (located inside the Laundry Building) at 4:30 pm. Tour begins promptly at 4:45 pm. This is a rain or shine event. Masks are required inside all buildings. Capacity is limited due to COVID-19 regulations. Social distancing will be maintained during all guided tours. 

Health and Safety

We have taken enhanced health and safety measures for our visitors and staff. You must follow all posted instructions while visiting Shirley Plantation.

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness or death, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and individuals with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

When visiting Shirley Plantation you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

Upon Arrival:
– Check-in at the Gift Shop before your tour.
– Follow instructions from the Gift Shop attendant for where to meet your tour guide.

While Visiting:
– Follow the state mandate to wear a mask inside buildings and while on your tour.
– Maintain social distancing (minimum 6 ft.) from other groups.
– Follow guidelines outlined for each building (signs located at entrances
of buildings).
– Avoid touching anything inside of buildings.

What we’re doing:
– Sanitizing buildings, touchpoints, and restrooms every two hours.
– Providing advance and online payment.
– Limiting direct interactions with guests.
– Modifying the Guided Tour to adhere to Virginia’s phase 3 requirements.
